Subnautica 2 Lava Zone
The deepest accessible region. Inactive Lava Zone leads to Lava Castle and the Disease Research Facility; Active Lava Zone is where Sea Dragon Leviathans patrol around Primary Containment. You need MK3 depth modules to operate here, and Kyanite — the resource needed to make those modules — only drops in the deepest layer.

Troubleshooting
- ! My Cyclops took fire damage in the Active Lava Zone.
Cause: Cyclops hull above lava lakes takes sustained heat damage. Engine fires also start more easily here.
- Stay at least 30 m above lava lake surface when transiting.
- Use Slow speed and silent running — predator + heat double tax.
- Equip Cyclops Thermal Reactor Module: passively recharges from ambient heat instead of draining you.
- Park outside the lava lake when deploying Prawn for mining; come back when full inventory.
- ! Sea Dragon ate my Prawn Suit and I respawned with no gear.
Cause: Sea Dragons one-shot the Prawn from above; the player ejects but loses inventory if vehicle was destroyed.
- Always Prawn under cover — close to lava castle walls or rock formations.
- Listen for the Sea Dragon roar (similar audio cue to Reaper but lower). React within 5 sec.
- Carry Stasis Rifle in Prawn inventory — freeze, mine, escape.
- Multiplayer: 1 player decoys with Cyclops up high; partner mines below.
- ! How do I find Kyanite — I've been in Lava Zone for an hour.
Cause: Kyanite only spawns in the Active Lava Zone (below 1,400 m), not Inactive. Newcomers often farm Inactive thinking they're in the right place.
- Confirm depth: 1,400 m+ means you're in Active.
- Look for blue-purple crystalline outcrops on the molten floor.
- Mine 6+ Kyanite per trip — MK3 modules use them aggressively.
- Active Lava floor IS the lava — Prawn jet-jump between rock platforms.
