Subnautica 2 Reaper Leviathan
The most-feared creature in the original Subnautica is among the species rumoured to appear in Subnautica 2 Early Access, set in the new Ariadne Arm system. Same 55-metre apex predator design, same heart-stopping roar — and the same four mistakes that get every new player killed.

Troubleshooting
- ! A Reaper is biting my Seamoth/Prawn — what now?
Cause: The Reaper has clamped on with its mandibles. Seamoth takes 30%+ HP per grab; the Prawn loses one charge per grab. You have ~3 seconds before another bite.
- Press Perimeter Defense (Seamoth) or Punch (Prawn) immediately to stun.
- The moment its grip releases, throttle backward — Reapers chase forward best.
- Climb vertically, not horizontally. Reapers patrol a fixed depth band; rising to <100 m loses aggro.
- If your vehicle hits 0 HP during a grab, you survive ejected — swim up immediately.
- ! I keep dying at the Aurora — I need to scan its terminal.
Cause: The Aurora's exterior is thick with Reaper spawns. Most early players approach by Seamoth, which is exactly the wrong vehicle.
- Use the Cyclops with silent running — Reapers cannot grab it, only ram.
- Or: bring 2 Stasis Rifles on a Seamoth; freeze the Reaper, sprint past, freeze again at re-aggro.
- Aurora's entry hatch is on the north side at ~30 m. Approach from above, not sea-level.
- Pack a Repair Tool + Repair Kits — Aurora has interior radiation; you'll need patching.
- ! The audio cue is loud but I can't see the Reaper.
Cause: Underwater audio is omnidirectional in Subnautica. A loud roar means it's within ~80 m but not necessarily in your line of sight.
- Stop your vehicle the moment you hear the first roar.
- Open the scanner room HUD if you have one nearby — it pings the Reaper position.
- Look down and behind first — Reapers approach from below into your vehicle's blind spot.
- If the second roar is louder than the first, retreat the way you came; do not push forward.
- ! Subnautica 2 multiplayer — can a teammate help kill it?
Cause: Yes. Sub2 supports up to 4-player co-op. Two players can kite-and-strike the Reaper much faster.
- One player draws aggro in a Seamoth (close range).
- Second player follows in a Prawn Suit with Drill Arm.
- Stasis Rifle from the Seamoth player to freeze; Prawn drills repeatedly.
- Estimated TTK with 2 players + Stasis: ~3 – 4 minutes (vs ~10 solo).
